Contest Entry : Bald Mountain

Bald Mountain Proposal:

Bald Mountain will serve as a tent pole attraction for the long rumored Villains themed 5th gate at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida and will be an E-Ticket thrill ride experience. The guests will experience the adventure of a life-time as they embark on a scientific research expedition into the legendary Bald Mountain. As a part of a group of specially selected research assistants they will be briefed at base camp (pre-show and safety spiel) before following their guide and senior researcher (Cast Member) into their craft (ride vehicle). They will journey into the heart of the mountain via underground river. Their mission is to gather data to help determine why no plant life will grow in the otherwise fertile soil of the mountain. What they will discover is a terrible secret from a time long ago. They will encounter the terrifying Chernabog and his minions.

The attraction will utilize a water coaster ride system similar to the Atlantis attractions at several Sea World parks. The beginning and the climactic finale of the ride will operate much like a tradition flume ride, while the majority of the ride will be spent indoors in a dark ride/rollercoaster experience, complete with music, special optical and sound effects, Audio Animatronics and pyrotechnics.  The finale is an exciting escape from the Chernabog, which will be a giant Audio Animatronic, similar to the Yeti from Expedition Everest, with major design improvements, preventing a repeat of the engineering mistakes of the Yeti.

On stage, Bald Mountain will be an imposing and dark mountain with a themed queue and pre-show area. The surrounding area will be themed as a run down and desolate village. Make shift stores and a tavern style counter-service restaurant will inhabit the area, their story will be told in the details. They were opened to cater to the researchers even though the rest of the village was abandoned long ago. There will be an old cemetery with grand head stones and grave markers, crafted by skilled artisans and left to the ravages of time. Backstage the bulk of the attraction will be housed in a huge climate controlled show building.
